Life with incontinence
Living with incontinence, and dealing with one or more of the symptoms on a daily basis, can have devastating impact on quality of life, as it entails hygienic difficulties that can lead to social isolation, loss of employment, and cause psychological side effects. The burden of symptoms, e.g. the constant fear and preparation for involuntary leakage accidents, can result in emotional distress, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and issues with sexual life.
Incontinence management
When conservative therapies for incontinence management (e.g. pelvic floor exercises, life style modifications) have proven unsuccessful, three overall strategies are used in current incontinence management: Coping strategies including sanitary pads and diapers, medication and as last resort more advanced therapies including surgical aspects. We develop an alternative to the expensive and invasive solutions currently used.
